About the role

The Lead Reliability Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing reliability strategies that maximise the availability, integrity and performance of rotating equipment across industrial operations. The role provides technical leadership in reliability engineering, asset integrity, maintenance optimisation and root cause analysis, ensuring compliance with international engineering standards and company objectives. The successful candidate serves as the subject-matter expert for rotating equipment and leads multidisciplinary teams to improve equipment reliability, reduce lifecycle costs and enhance operational performance. Location: Suriname.

What you'll do

  • Lead the reliability engineering function for all rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines, blowers, gearboxes, generators and auxiliary systems).
  • Develop and implement asset reliability and maintenance strategies based on RCM, RBM and predictive maintenance; perform equipment criticality assessments and optimise preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations and ensure sustainable corrective actions; analyse performance trends, failure history and maintenance data to improve plant reliability and availability.
  • Provide technical guidance during troubleshooting of complex rotating-equipment failures; support major shutdowns, turnarounds, commissioning and start-up activities.
  • Review engineering designs and vendor documentation to ensure reliability requirements are incorporated during project execution.
  • Monitor reliability KPIs (MTBF, MTTR, equipment availability, reliability index, OEE) and drive continuous-improvement initiatives to enhance asset performance and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Inspection, Projects, Procurement and OEM representatives; ensure compliance with corporate engineering standards, HSE requirements and international industry codes.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in reliability engineering within oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, mining or heavy industry; minimum 7 years specialised experience with rotating equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams; extensive knowledge of rotating-equipment design, operation, maintenance and failure mechanisms.
  • Strong command of reliability methodologies: RCM, RBM, RCFA, FMEA, Reliability Block Diagrams, Weibull analysis, condition monitoring, vibration analysis, oil/lubrication analysis, thermography, laser shaft alignment and precision maintenance.
  • Knowledge of mechanical seal systems, bearing technologies, API standards (610/617/618/670/682/686), ISO 55000 asset management and CMMS (SAP PM / Maximo).
  • Preferred certifications: Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), Vibration Analyst (ISO CAT II/III), CMRP; PMP or Prince2 an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, leadership, stakeholder-management and communication skills; strategic and results-oriented, with high integrity, ownership and accountability.
